Elle's lunch with the principal

For the silent auction for Elle's class to raise money for Haiti, we got together with a friend of Elle's (Olivia) and bid on lunch with the principal. We won! Mr. Roy took them to the Rain Forrest Cafe in Dubai Mall.

AWA Ball

Larry and I went to the AWA ball again this year. It was fun. We sat at a table with other DAA parents. The economy has hurt events like that... the bar wasn't open, the silent auction not as large and the gift bags skimpy. But I am still glad that we went. Hopefully our next black tie event Larry won't be in a cast!

Elle's class fun raiser for Haiti

Elle's class put together a fund raiser to support Haiti victims. They had a bake sale, dunk tank, garage sale, and silent auction. They raised 15,000 Dirhams to give to Doctors Without Borders to medical care in Haiti. It was pretty darn cool! Our big day was on Souk day at school - a big garage sale of sorts. We rented a dunk tank, students took turns trying to dunk their teachers while we sold our junk and baked goodies. I donated a painting of mosques to the cause. It was a great thing to be a part of! Elle has such an awesome teacher this year.

Here is a picture of Elle's teacher in the tank. Safety isn't a top concern in the UAE... I was shocked that there wasn't a net. Luckily no on got hurt.

Nickelback Concert

Dani and Elle attended their first rock concert! It was held at Festival city in Dubai. All seats were standing, which I had pre-warned the kids about - no complaining! We went with several other couples. First we had dinner at On the Border in the mall, then headed outside to the concert venue. We got there earlier enough that we have spots against the fence, so the kids could see very well. Near the end Dani and Elle jumped the fence with our friend Lara to hang out with other friends on the VIP side. The girls thought that was way cool! It was a blast and Nickelback was very good live.
